Hi, I’m Kristen, the creator of Work From Home Wiser, And, yep, you guessed it, I work from home.
As I write this I am three months shy of having worked from home full-time for an entire year.
Overall this first year has been great! I no longer dread a 90-mile round-trip commute in my 2005 Chevy Silverado … in Atlanta traffic. I drink my morning coffee from a cup, not a travel mug. My dress code is a tee shirt and sweat pants. Since I also work for myself, if I happen to hit the snooze button one too many times it doesn’t matter to anyone but me. And if I need to handle some non-work business in the middle of the day, I can.
Sure, some days I miss my former coworkers … or having coworkers period. But if I had it to do over – to continue to go to work rather than to work from home – I wouldn’t change my decision.
That said, I have discovered that working from home is not quite the cure-all I imagined it would be. For instance, despite the control I have over my schedule, I still struggle to get to the gym … which is all the more important because unlike my previous go-to-work job, my WFH job involves a lot of sitting.
Struggling to get to the gym isn’t my only challenge. This year showed me that there’s a learning curve to working from home. The WFH lifestyle comes with its own set of hurdles, including some that I hadn’t fully anticipated.
The purpose of this website is to share with you what I have learned this past year. If you are considering working from home, I hope to save you some painful lessons and provide you with all the tips you need for WFH success.
